Back bone pain - 4th stage lung cancer
My mum suffering severe bone pain at her back. She is a 4th stage lung cancer patient for 3 years+, was on Morphine medication for her first week, however not so effective, is there any way to reduce her pain?
Pain management for advanced-stage cancer can sometimes be complex, as each patient’s response to medications may vary. We understand that Morphine has not provided the expected relief, and we sincerely empathize with your concern.
In general, there are several potential pain relief strategies available for cancer patients, especially those with bone pain:
Opioid Medications: While Morphine is commonly used, there are other opioid medications such as Fentanyl that may be more effective depending on the individual's response.
Adjuvant Pain Relievers: Medications like anti-seizure drugs , antidepressants, or corticosteroids may also be used to treat nerve-related pain or inflammation, which can be common in cancer-related pain.
Palliative Radiation: If the bone pain is due to cancer spreading to the bones, radiation therapy can sometimes provide relief by reducing pain and improving mobility.
Nerve Blocks: In certain cases, a nerve block or a local anesthetic procedure can be used to target specific areas of pain and provide more effective relief.
Each patient's response to pain management strategies can differ, so it is important to consult with a specialist who can assess your mother's condition in detail. Our pain management team can work with you to determine the most appropriate medication or treatment plan based on her unique needs.
